We Shouldn’t伤害 them: A Case of Silence and德性

We all know that we should not harm others, but when it comes to people who are different from us, it becomes more difficult to follow this rule. We often feel like we have to make someone else feel不舒服 or不快乐 in order to make ourselves feel better. This can be a very harmful and manipulating way of thinking.

One day, a young man came to my office and asked for help. He was struggling with his relationships and felt like he was not being heard or seen by his significant other. I immediately started to listen to what he had to say and offered my help. However, as I was doing so, I heard him say something along the lines of, “But I don’t want to make someone else feel like they are not important. I just want to be heard.”

I was taken aback by this statement and realized that it was a very common attitude that could be harmful to others. It was a way of trying to manipulate others into feeling something that they did not feel or were not capable of feeling.

I wanted to tell him that he was not making sense, that it was not healthy to try to make someone else feel something that they did not feel, and that he should focus on himself and his own feelings. But before I could do so, I had to沉默.

It is important to remember that we are all different and have our own unique set of needs and feelings. It is not possible for us to know what is best for others, and it is not possible for us to make everyone happy. This is where the concept of “德性” (dignity) comes in.

德性 is a concept that is often translated as “dignity” or “humanity”. It refers to the quality of being humane and respectful of others, even when they are different from us or when we do not understand them. It is a way of thinking that allows us to treat others with kindness and empathy, rather than with harmfulness and manipulation.

In conclusion, it is important to remember that we should not harm others, even when it comes to people who are different from us. It is important to focus on ourselves and our own needs, but it is also important to treat others with kindness and respect, even when they are different from us or when we do not understand them. By following this rule, we can create a more peaceful and harmonious world for ourselves and for others.
